5 Stupid Shots Every Golfer has Tried (and Failed)

5 Stupid Shots Every Golfer has Tried (and Failed)

I have to laugh and applaud golfers at the same time.

Even on our worst ball striking days, we think we have the potential to hit the miracle shot.

If there’s even a glimmer of hope, we like to give it a try. As Harry and Lloyd said in Dumb and Dumber, “So you’re saying there’s a chance.”

Here are five stupid shots that we’ve all tried and usually fail with but still worth it.

5. The Bomb

If you’re like most golfers, you want to hit a bomb off the first tee. Your buddies, the pro shop, and spectators might be looking on as you pump the first drive of the day.

But chances are you put too much pressure on yourself and hit something ugly… let’s just hope it’s not a top!

4. Par 5 In Two

How many times have you waited for a green to clear on a par 5, only to top a 3-wood off the deck?

Yikes.

I say hit up on the group if you’re 250+ out and worry about saying sorry instead of putting the added pressure of waiting on yourself.

3. Short Par 4

Putting for an eagle on a par 4 is a legendary move.

If there’s a chance you drive the green on a short one, let it rip. You can still salvage par with a bad drive on these holes.

2. The Window

I love it when you find your ball in the midst of a forest but think you have a shot to reach the green. In golfer’s terms, you say, “I think I got a window.”

If things go well, you’re a hero. But there’s a 99% chance things go terribly wrong and you hit several trees and have to play the next one from there too.

If you’re feeling it – go for it!

1. The Putt to Win The Match

Finally, let’s not forget about the putt you have to win some money for your buddies on the 18th hole.

Remember, when nerves happen, most golfers leave the putt short, so get it to the hole. Don’t leave it short with money on the line.

Which of these five shots is most relatable?
